Drawing provided me with a sense of respite as a child, but it was under the guidance of my high school art teacher that I began to pursue art seriously. With her encouragement, I developed the portfolio that earned me acceptance into the Fine Art program at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. I later apprenticed as a draftsperson, spending my days with pencil in hand and further developing my appreciation for precision, structure, and detail.

My artistic journey continued at Kathy Cooper’s atelier in Westford, Massachusetts, where I deepened my understanding of painting. More recently, studying under Todd Bonita has helped me find a greater depth of expression in my work. I am deeply grateful to both Kathy and Todd for the knowledge, encouragement, and insight they have shared with me.

Through my study of the methods of the Old Masters, I have learned to craft paintings building on the  underpainting, which allows me to intensify both detail and atmosphere. I am especially drawn to the contrast between elements such as clouds dissolving into the atmosphere then meeting the hard, architectural edges of a building. These transitions create a visual tension that continually excites me.

I have also had the opportunity to participate in workshops with Leah Lopez, Daniel Keyes, Sergio Roffo, Mary Byrom, and Joseph McGurl, as well as plein air workshops on Monhegan Island, in Ballyvaughan, County Clare, Ireland, and in Paris, France. Each experience has expanded my understanding of observation, light, and the possibilities of painting.

Recently I have been juried into an Emerging Artist Show at North Shore Art Association.

 I hope my paintings offer viewers a pause: a quiet moment to see, feel, and perhaps discover beauty in something they might otherwise have overlooked.  Fastinating details are often hiding in plain sight, let's enjoy the view!
